The New Hampshire Timber Harvesting Council was formed in 1993 to promote and protect the interests of the state's 1400 loggers and forest products truckers.
The Council is jointly sponsored by the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association, the Forest Industries Training Center at the University of New Hampshire Thompson School and the UNH Cooperative Extension.
The leadership is made up of independent contractors - large and small - from all corners of the state dedicated to ensuring that the harvesting of forest products remains a safe, environmentally responsible and commercially viable land use.
EDUCATION: The Timber Harvesting Council's education goals are two-fold.
*Promote a greater understanding within the profession of timber harvesting and trucking regulations, safety and first aid, wetlands & wildlife habitat, business managment and other important topics via workshops linked to the logger certification program.
* Educate and inform the general public about responsible harvesting and transportation of forest products.
LEGISLATIVE ACTIVISM: The Timber Harvesting Council works closely with the NHTOA to ensure your voice is heard in state government on:
*new or changing timber harvesting regulations.
*workers' compensation rates.
*truck weight restrictions.
*other legislation important to loggers.
NETWORKING: Attend the Annual Loggers & Truckers Convention. Share common interests, exchange ideas, build friendships, explore solutions and discuss new methods in efficiency and production with other New Hampshire loggers and truckers.
